Before you walk through our doors and slide into that sweet self-care moment, let’s talk about prep because a flawless wax or sugar result doesn’t just happen at the table. It starts with how you treat your skin before your visit.
1. Hydrate Like You Mean It
Beautiful skin is hydrated skin. Drink plenty of water and moisturize daily leading up to your appointment. Hydration keeps your skin supple and helps your hair release more easily during removal meaning less pain, fewer ingrowns, and a smoother finish.
Tip: Use a lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer 24 hours before your service skip it the day of your appointment to ensure the wax or sugar can grip the hair, not the lotion.
2. Exfoliate 2–3 Days Before
Give your skin a gentle exfoliation a few days before your appointment. This removes dead skin buildup and helps prevent ingrowns. For sugaring, exfoliation is key since sugar paste adheres only to dead skin and hair, not live skin, a smooth canvas means cleaner results.
Try This: Use a body polish, dry brush, or gentle exfoliating mitt. Avoid anything too harsh or chemical-based.
3. Let It Grow, Let It Grow
We know it’s tempting but don’t shave. Hair should be at least ¼ inch long (about the length of a grain of rice) for both waxing and sugaring. This gives the product enough to grip and ensures a thorough removal. If the hair is too short, it might not lift properly; too long, and the process can be more uncomfortable.
4. Stay Cool. Literally
Avoid heat and friction for 24 hours before your appointment: no tanning, hot yoga, saunas, or tight leggings. Overheated skin = extra sensitivity. We want calm, happy skin that’s ready for a little tough love and a lot of TLC.
5. Know the Difference: Wax vs. Sugar
At Brown Sugar Theory, you can choose your method.
Hard Wax grips the hair and dries slightly on the skin before being removed perfect for coarse hair or those who like quick results.
Sugar Paste is all natural, applied at body temperature, and removed by hand gentler on the skin and ideal for sensitive areas.
No matter your choice, both leave you feeling smooth, confident, and ready to strut.
6. First-Timer? Take It Slow
If this is your first time, breathe we got you. Your specialist will work in smaller sections and use a slower technique to minimize discomfort. You’re in caring, experienced hands. Just focus on deep breathing and staying relaxed; the rest is our job.
7. Day Of Checklist
Shower before your visit (clean skin only - no oils or lotions).
Wear loose, breathable clothing.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol; they heighten sensitivity.
Communicate any medications, skin products, or recent exfoliating treatments to your esthetician.
